The Same River

As in . . .

You can’t step into the same river twice.

This week sees a change in the format/layout of my blog. I was working on some technical issues with the previous theme (jargon for a blog layout package) and parked the blog here until I had them resolved.

That, at least, was the plan. But I’d be interested in your opinions (better, worse, meh) on the new look to help me decide whether it should be a fill-in solution or a longer-term solution. I can’t promise to go with what the majority prefer, because pesky technical problems do arise, but I’d still be interested.

If you can’t remember what it used to look like, you can get an approximate view of that by checking out my proposal blog. Different colours but same-old layout.

Thanks!

This is nice. But it’s not that important to me — HA! what am I saying? I got upset when the Globe & Mail changed their headline font in 1996. I complained when the library abandoned their long wooden drawers for the internet. I got over both of these, so I’ll be fine — eventually — with whatever you decide, as long as I can read your posts.

Barbara – Hahaha. You exhibit selective caring, which is part of what makes us human. If we had to care about everything equally, yikes. But message received.

I see on responding that only my first name appears. I filled in the boxes below, so I’ll see what happens with this one.

    • Isabel Gibson says:

Barbara – Ah, interesting feedback on the form. Thanks. I don’t actually know whether that’s a setting I can change . . . See above re “technical issues.” I am technically challenged. 🙁

I like the bigger type. I also find serif faces easier to read than sans. But maybe that’s just because someone once told me that serif is easier to read. The rest is just mechanics.

    • Isabel Gibson says:

Jim – Hmm. In my previous theme I could adjust the font size & type endlessly: not in this one, I don’t think. I used to prefer serif fonts unequivocally but have been doing so much screen work for the last quarter century that I’m (at least) used to sans serif. Thanks.

I like the new theme. Easier to read because the print is larger and brighter.

As for the same river…they say there are Journey people and Destination people. Destination people say, “this is where and how and what it’s going to be.” Journey people are willing to see around the next bend and see what will be or could be.

    • Isabel Gibson says:

Tom – OK, thanks kindly for that vote. If I switch back, I’ll look at changing the old font. As for Journey/Destination people, I guess we need both types: some to see what could be, and some to get us there.

  5. I like the change, possibly because I like change – startles the eye, which is good for blogs. Like me, you have left the realm of government documents that are meant not to startle the eye.

    • Isabel Gibson says:

Judith – Hahaha – that’s true. We did try not to startle evaluators. Thanks for the feedback.

  6. Dorothy Warren says:

I enjoy your blog no matter what but I will go against the grain and say I prefer the old format. Could be because I read it on my phone and always zoom in on the type to read it so font size doesn’t matter. Put me down as getting older and resistant to change. What ever is easiest for you, just don’t quit!

    • Isabel Gibson says:

Dorothy: Thanks for the feedback. I realized when I thought about it that I could adjust the font at my end under that old theme, so that’s an option too. And many thanks for reading.

  7. Paul Coffman says:

The black color of the changed font makes it much easier for me to read.

It looks good Isabel. There is one thing that I want As the others say, content, content….
