Buddy & Me: If We Colour-code the Tabs

Does the subconscious ever sleep? I dunno: Just one of many unanswered questions from my life. I do know that sometimes she works while *I* sleep. Bless her heart.

Even today, when I’m not in the proposal fray, I find that a wee break from a situation or problem might be just what I need to let my subconscious do her thing.

That momentary lucid interval between sleep and wakefulness sometimes yields insights you can’t measure, define, or prove. I woke a few weeks ago with the thought, “Don isn’t going to make it.” (Don is a friend, suffering from a rare form of cancer. So far, he and his doctors all sound optimistic.) I have no reason for trusting that flash of insight, but I expect it to prove true. Somehow, in that brief instant when we have put away the fantasyland of dreams but before we have entered the ADHD of reality, there’s a chance for simple truths to appear, unadorned.

Jim – Yes, our subconscious is busy all the time, I think, but audible only when we’re quiet. A rare state, these days. I’m sorry about Don and hope in this case that flash of insight turns out to be wrong.
