I think this is an Anna’s hummingbird. For sure it’s one of the rare ones that sit still for long enough on a branch that’s low enough for me to get a shot. Two, in fact.
Who knew a hummingbird could purse its, umm, lips?

Love the hummingbirds!! had so many when we lived in the country – it’s one of the things I miss most living in town. I find they sit quite a bit actually, but you have to figure out their favourite resting spots. Lovely photo!
Alison – Thanks! Figuring out their resting spots is maybe part of the work that Judith was referring to? For the (mostly) waterbirds at the local water spot here, it’s going at the right time of day for the light, their activity, and the available places to lurk onshore without being too disruptive. As work, not too hard to take.
Nicely captured Isabel
Jim R – Thanks!
