Bon mots from a few good women (dames, even, which is a whole other topic):
- When women go wrong, men go right after them. - Mae West
- I don't know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot. - Marilyn Monroe
- If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman. - Margaret Thatcher

After invading southern Greece and receiving the submission of other key city-states, Philip turned his attention to Sparta and asked menacingly whether he should come as friend or foe. The reply was "Neither."Â Losing patience, he sent the message:
If I invade Laconia, I shall turn you out.
The Spartan ephors again replied with a single word:
If.
Philip proceeded to invade Laconia, devastate much of it, and eject the Spartans from various parts.

Me again. Saying "If" in response to some "if/then" statement that you want to be dismissive of is cool, but there are two points:
- It's a better story when the last sentence is left off. That "if" actually happened.
- Today I learned that laconic derives from Laconia, the city-state that Philip invaded.

Beautiful photos, Isabel..
Happy New Year!
Tom
Tom – Many thanks. Right back at ya.
The red sky in that last photo is a thing of beauty Isabel. We’ll done, and happy New Year.
Ken – Many thanks, and happy new year to Kenora, too.
From glory unto glory, gifts from on high. Thank you for sharing the Blessing!
Laurna – 🙂 🙂
I LOVE a wide open sky!!
Alison – We’re forming two lines . . . 🙂
Beautiful sky and excellent photos. I also caught a dramatic sunset on my walk yesterday afternoon. Makes me feel good, even if it is just a meteorological phenomenon.
Judith – Many thanks. It is a happy thing, isn’t it?
Hard to believe these are NOT unsaturated in Photoshop – gorgeous!
Barbara – 🙂 Many thanks. I did add a bit of “warm contrast” but it mostly brightened them up a tad.
Stunning views! I find it difficult to capture the beauty of a sunset in pictures. They do not often translate well. You have done a fantastic job! Living vicariously through your photos… Happy New Year!
Heather – I feel your difficulties. This sunset was much wider, of course, but the full view included lots of distracting elements, as it often does. Meanwhile, the zoomed view is a little narrow. But the colours came through well, even though the full IRL impact is missing. I think I need a wide-angle lens . . . 🙂 Glad you’re enjoying the photos.
