Devils Tower, WY

Devils Tower.

First American National Monument. Sacred to Northern Plains Indians.

Interesting to geologists. Challenging to climbers. Frustrating to amateur photographers.

I mean, when I got close enough to show off its interesting structure, I was too close to show off how unusual it is in its surroundings.

Relative close-up of Devils Tower.

Devils Tower in distance; brown-eyed susans in foreground.

Of course, the other way of looking at it is to accept that it’s all good – but no one picture does it all.

  1. Is this the close encounter of the third kind landing spot?
