Who could possibly confuse Admiral Lord Nelson, of the Battle of Trafalgar, with Spike Milligan, of The Goon Show? Well, the quagmire of quote attribution doth make fools of us all, as someone (ahem) may have said.
“A sure cure for seasickness is to sit under a tree.”
Attributed to Lord Nelson (1758 – 1805)
and to Spike Milligan (1918 – 2002)
It shouldn’t be difficult to sort out this confusion, given that Nelson died 103 years before Milligan was born. They weren’t contemporaries, nor in the same line of work. But apparently it’s not that simple, or ‘twould already have been done. Continue reading

Wandering through the outdoor display area at the Pima Air & Space Museum, I kicked up dust and tried to shield both my eyes and my camera from sun glare. It was a warm March day in Tucson AZ.
Lacking any historical context for these aircraft, or any technical context for their capabilities, I know I didn’t “see” even a fraction of what was in front of me. And yet I still found plenty to do on my photo shoot. Continue reading
This week’s movie uses PiP, the picture-in-picture effect, for my first time.
It’s another classic #naturevideo, this time meeting a #slasherflick, at least acoustically.
I saw these alligators in the wild (South Carolina) and in an alligator farm (Florida), where I was able to record them booming.

Although I do go on some intentional photo shoots for some subjects (birds and bridges being two prime examples), I tend to the opportunistic in my photography. Others might characterize it differently, but all I mean is that most of my photos arise from me taking my camera with me, along for the ride.
Sometimes, literally.
